Morning skincare

Read more for my morning skincare routine

I've been meaning to do a post on skin care for a while but my lipsticks take over. It's not often I change my skin care routine, once I find something that works I stick to it. Though I do sometimes switch or add things in depending on the seasons. Lately I've had to up my skin care game as the winters really dried my face out, but these are all my go-to items.

1. Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water
I used to use Bio-Derma micellar water for ages, but seeing as it wasn't as easy to grab I switched to Garnier as soon as they released it. I does pretty much the same thing, but you can grab it in Superdrug rather than ordering it online. I use this with cotton pads to freshen my face in the morning and use it at night to remove the bulk of my make up.

2. Lush Cosmetics Tea Tree Water
This stuff has helped my skin so much since I got it, I use it as my toner after I cleanse my face. It tightens your pores, reduces any redness, prevents breakouts and just makes your skin feel fab. If I'm having a really bad skin day I sometimes use it directly onto a blemish. It does have a spray but I've never really mastered spraying it on my face, I much prefer to use cotton pads.

3. Nip-Fab Viper Venom Frown Fix*
I haven't had this in my routine for too long, but it's been in for a few weeks now. The frown fix claims to do as it's name says, it boosts the collagen in your skin to reduce and blur any frown lines. I spend probably 23 hours a day frowning as I'm the grumpiest person alive, so I really do have frown lines at 22. You apply this before you apply your moisturiser with its little brush applicator. I do actually really like this and so far I'm convinced it's worked.. or I've stopped frowning and I doubt that.

4. Benefit Triple Performing Facial Emulsion
I loooove this. I got this when I purchased my porefessional top up around a year ago now and I've stuck with it ever since. It's a really light cream/serum and soaks straight into your skin, I don't have time to wait around in the mornings for my moisturiser to soak in for 10 minutes. If my skin needs a really good moisturise I'll do add a hydrating mask into my night time routine (I'll do my night routine another time).

Embyolisse Lait-Creme Concentre
This is an alternative to my Benefit Triple Performing Emulsion, I loved this moisturiser last winter but once it reached summer I had to put it away. It's an amazing moisturiser, just a little too thick for my skin in summer but has worked wonders for this winter. If you have dry skin I would recommend this in a heart beat.

I'm going to do a 'night time' version of this at some point too, so I hope you enjoyed a little skin care insight. What is your morning skin care staples?

Mothers Day Gift Guide

Mothers Day Gifts

I love buying gifts, there's something so thrilling about giving someone something they didn't expect. Or even just treating them to something nice they may not be able to get themselves. I really stress about gifts though, I like to know exactly all my different options so I don't panic last minute. I'm a planning freak, much to my boyfriends anger.. haha woops! I'm slightly struggling with what to buy my Mam this year seeing as she just splashed out and bought herself a watch, so that's off my list now! Though I do think they make lovely gifts as they last a long time :).

Lush Cosmetics
Now I don't think you can beat being treated to some relaxing goodies from Lush, they're up there with some of my favourite gifts I got for Christmas. I don't plan on buying my Mam the whole gift box but just snippets that I know she will enjoy, like a bath bomb and the Yummy Mummy shower gel!

Flowers
Now you can't go wrong with flowers, whether it is a beautiful bunch from Marks and Spencers or a ordered bunch online. Especially seeing as all the Spring flowers are growing there is some beautiful bunches, especially Tulips.

Jewellery
I usually buy my Mam jewellery of some form for Mothers Day, usually to go with a dress or top I've bought her. She likes the statement jewellery you can get from the likes of New Look, and I loved this bold silver necklace. I was planning to buy a watch too but seeing as she bought one herself I'm not anymore, but they're still a lovely gift whether you're more budget or high end they all look lovely.

Perfume
I always think perfume is a lovely gift, you can always get great gift sets around holidays too. I'm currently loving Chloe perfume at the moment, and it's definitely a scent my Mam would love too. With a mixture of Jasmine and Orange Blossom it really is a lovely scent.

Make Up
Make Up wise my Mam doesn't wear much, but there is little things she loves that I could buy her. Especially Benefits They're Real mascara, I keep trying to get her to try different brands and she still loves this one. Definitely an addition she would love.

There is so many different things to buy but obviously depends on what your Mam likes, but hope my little snippets give you some inspiration as to what to get.

Remember Mothers Day is the 6th March this year!

How much is my daily face worth

I loved the idea of this post since I saw it on Iridescent Places, plus I was really curious to know how much money I actually spend. When you think of it these aren't exactly monthly repurchases, some I might only buy once a year so might not be toooo expensive really. I also haven't included any eye shadow products mostly because I change it up on a daily basis or sometimes I don't wear any eye make up at all.

Beauty Blender £16.00
This is my godsend, to me it beats all the dupes out there and I always repurchase it. It evens out all my foundation to a perfect smooth base and is great if you highlight with concealer. I use mine damp as it stops the foundation soaking into the sponge, it makes such a difference.

Benefit Triple Performing Emulsion £22.50
I've been using this well over a year now, though I do dip in and out of using it, it is my most used morning moisturiser. I got this with my porefessional once and never looked back!

Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer £5.49
I love love love this, I actually bought this on a whim and I don't regret it. It highlights under your eyes so well and blends so easily.

Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Gel Foundation £10.99
I don't know what the difference between the serum and the foundation is but I love this, I have it in two shades (Vanilla and Light Beige). It lasts well over 5 hours then I need a powder top up, but that's with my super oily skin so every foundation does this to me. It's just so light but has amazing coverage.

Benefit Porefessional £24.50
This does exactly what it says on the tin, hides all your pores and any redness too. It has the strangest mousse texture which creates an amazing base for your foundation and helps it last. It's the best primer I've used to date.

Mac Mehr Lipstick £15.50
I don't know why this has went such a funny shape, ha. But this is and always has been my most go to shade since forever, it's just the most wearable shade for any occasion. I love it.

Benefit Rollerlash Mascara £17.55
I made my way through two samples before buying this as I wasn't always too convinced, but by the end I did love it. It curls your lashes without using lash curlers and lengthens them perfectly. Plus the packaging is fab.

Benefit Hoola Bronzer £23.50
I change between this and my Laguna bronzer, but seeing as I don't own a single Laguna bronzer this was included. It doesn't make your cheeks muddy and is the perfect colour for my skin tone. Plus the little brush in the box is soo handy for contour your cheekbones.

Milani Blush in Corallina £6.00
I love this, it has an amazing baked colour which leaves a great shine to the apples of your cheeks. I love the shade Corallina as it warms my complexion a little, especially with me being so pale in winter. It has a similar texture to the Hourglass blushes, but at probably a third of the price.

Rimmel Stay Matte £3.99
I wouldn't say this is spectacular, but it's just a simple powder that does what I need it to. I use this with my RT setting brush to set my foundation on my oily areas.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow £15.00
I odn't know how I would cope if this ever discontinued, I love how it gives you the flexability to do basically every shape and style possible to your brows. I mostly go for the ombre brow as I light the inner parts of my brows to be nice and light.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Duo £17.00
Now this isn't as life changing as Dipbrow but it blends perfectly with dipbrow to fill in areas. Sometimes I even just use this on it's own if I'm not going all out, but it is handy to have!

TheBalm Mary Lou Manizer £17.49
I did a review of Mary Lou Manizer not too long ago and it really is as amazing as everyone says. Well if you like gold highlights that is.

Mac Half Red Lip Pencil £12.50
This matches so many of my red lipsticks, and seeing as the majority of my lipsticks are red this gets used so much. If you're a fan of reds, grab this!

Total: £208.01

That is actually sickening hahha, it doesn't look worth £208.01, do I now have to buy a more expensive foundation?? (I'm kidding), although I do want the Tarte foundation desperately. Now I'm currently wonderings how much all the stuff in my make up table equates to, would anyone be interested in that??

Lush Unicorn Horn

Read my Lush Cosmetics Unicorn Horn Review

Yaaaaaay, look what I finally got my hands on! I don't think I've ever wanted a bath bomb so badly?? Literally every single person was talking about it which made me want it even more, the Instagram taunts forced me!

The Unicorn Horn is a lavender scented bubble bar (which means you get to use it more than once) and you also get a bath full of bubbles! Bubble bars are usually my favourite from Lush, especially the Comforter (Review), so it was inevitable I was going to try this out. Plus who doesn't want to own a bubblebar in the shape of a unicorn horn.

I love the smell of lavender, it will always remind me of the lavender drops my Grandma put on my pillow when I was little. It's the most perfect relaxing scent and it is also infused with neroli oil which also relaxes you and increases seronontin levels and makes you cheery. It makes me cheery just looking at how pretty it is!

The only downside for me was the colour in the bath. I really expected this to be super bright and colourful in the water, but in reality it was just a really light baby pink. But the scent made it up for me and I still loved it. Now I just need to go grab more of the Valentines/Mother Day goodies, hopefully they're in the sale now!

Did you manage to grab this?

Escentual La Roche-Posay Effaclar BB Blur*

View more La Roche-Posay Effaclar BB Blur Review

I never thought I would see the day when I would be reaching for something other than my Benefit Porefessional, I have literally sworn by it for so long that I never bother to try anything else. This is where this beaut comes in from the lovely people at Escentual, I don't think I would have tried it otherwise. La Roce-Posay is a brand I love for skin care, but I haven't really delved into their beauty range before, I'm not really sure why either.

The Effaclar BB Blur is a BB cream mousse (which is £14 by the way), it's so different compared to other BB creams I have tried. The majority have a foundation/liquid consistency and this has a mousse feel a bit like the Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse if you ever remember that?!

View more La Roche-Posay Effaclar BB Blur Review

What it does:

Blurs your pores, blemishes and lines
Creates a smooth base/complexion
Absorbs the oil in your skin
.. It actually does these too!

You can use this either as a base for your foundation or just on it's own, but it obviously depends on what sort of coverage you like. Myself I like medium to full coverage, so a BB cream doesn't cover me enough. I just have too many scars and blemises that neeeeed hidden before I expose myself to the public. It creates the perfect base and makes my foundation last hours longer without a touch up and that's with my super oily skin.

I'm really impressed with this, it literally does exactly as it says it does and I love products like that. I know my Porefessional will still be around for simple make up days as I still love it, but if I know I'm having a busy day or a night out I'll definitely be breaking this out. It even blurred out my humongous spot at the gym tonight, phew.

Have you tried this before? What is your favourite primer/BB?

Viva Glam Ariana Grande

View More Mac Viva Glam Adriana Grande

As soon as I got the release email for the Ariana Grande lipstick I knew I needed it, I mean just look how amazing it looks!! I love dark lipsticks, which is you're a regular here you probably already realised. I delve between darks and purples, I'm not very exciting.

This shade is a dark matte plum, and it is beaaautiful on. It reminds me slightly of Mac Hang-Up / Diva. For being a matte shade is has a really nice shine to it and also isn't drying on your lips. You do need to use a lip scrub prior like all matte lips though, but that's just a good excuse to break out my Lush Popcorn lip scrub..

Wearing Mac Viva Glam Adriana Grande

The packaging is the normal Viva Glam packaging which is a black and metallic red bullet with the celebrities signature on. I love having a difference to the normal mac packaging, it makes the bullet stand out so much better in my lipstick organiser. There is a lot in there, it needs to stand out so I don't lose it into oblivion.

And what is better than buying a Mac lipstick than knowing again, all the proceeds go to Mac's Aids Charity!

Have you grabbed this shade yet?

Food: Chocolate Fudge Cake mmm..

Catch the Chocolate Fudge Cake recipe here
Catch the Chocolate Fudge Cake recipe here

Now I know it's January and everyone is 'healthy eating' but there is alwaaaays time for cake. Plus I got a mixer for Christmas and I wanted to use it! I don't like buying cake packs, I really enjoy making them from scratch. My Grandma is a amazing baker so she's always on the other end of the phone to help! I went for a Nigella recipe this time round, as I know her cakes are beaut I had to try it out. Plus I like chocolate.

This cake was literally the moistest cake ever and was so tasty, if I do say so myself.. though I copied a recipe haha. Plus it really wasn't hard either, so it doesn't take that much effort. Well unless you need to mix it yourself, which I didn't for the first time. Ah the ease!!

So anyway, if you're ruining your diet this week this is how you make it..

Ingredients

CAKE
400g Plain Flour
250g Golden Caster Sugar
100g Light Brown Muscovado Sugar
50g Cocoa Powder
2 tsp Baking Powder
1 tsp Bicarbonate of Soda
1/2 tsp of Salt
3 Large Eggs
142 ml Sour Cream
1 tbsp Vanilla Extract
175g Unsalted Butter - Melted and Cooled
125 ml Corn Oil (I used Rice Bran..)
300ml Chilled Water

FILLING/ICING
175g Dark Chocolate
250g Unsalted Butter
275g Sifted Icing Sugar
1 tbsp Vanilla Extract

Now onto making the cake

  1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees centigrade
  2. Grease your two 8in cake tins
  3. Mix the flour, sugars, cocoa, baking powder, bicarbonate of soda and the salt. (Or chuck into the mixer like me).
  4. In another bowl mix the eggs, sour cream and vanilla until blended.
  5. Beat together the butter, corn oil and then add the water and beat again.
  6. Add all the dry mix to the butter mix and blend slowly.
  7. Add the egg mix to the bowl and mix until it's nice and smooth.
  8. Distribute the mix evenly between the two tins then pop in the oven for 50-55 minutes.
  9. Leave the cakes the cool for 15 minutes before swapping them onto a rack.
Icing the cake

  1. Melt the dark chocolate and then let it cool while you prep the rest.
  2. Beat the butter until it's creamy.
  3. Then add the sieved icing sugar and mix until it's smooth (it does go smooth, be patient).
  4. Next add the chocolate and vanilla and mix until it's nice and smooth.

Ice cake, fill cake, then eat cake.

This was literally yummmy, and smelt delicious whilst baking. I then took it into work and it didn't last two seconds!

The Balm Mary Lou Manizer

See More for Mary Lou Manizer Highlight Review
See More for Mary Lou Manizer Highlight Review

I've wanted this highlighter since last Summer, it was forever sold out in Superdrug and I was 'budgeting' for Christmas. But eveeentually it was in stock over Christmas and my mam managed to grab it for me (thanks to Jasmine telling me), and it was also around £5 with it being black Friday so win win. My mam then hid it from me until Christmas day so I was super excited to get to use it!

If you haven't heard of this cult highlighter where have you been?? It's from The Balm and it is beautiful! It is a golden/honey toned highlighter and it is super pigmented. It isn't so pigmented that it is packed with glitter though, it diffuses the light on your cheekbones and creates a fab subtle glow. You can build it up for an intense glow if that's the look you like, though I only ever add extra on a night out. It's also amazing when applied with a wet brush (that's been sprayed with a fixing spray).

I've recently discovered strobing, a year later I know, but out of all of my other highlighters this is the one which creates the nicest effect. With it's golden tone it creates a really natural and bronzed glow to your complexion, I need a bronzed glow as whiter highlights make me appear to ghost like. If you didn't know (like me), strobing is using your highlighter to contour your face rather than using a dark bronzer to define your face. You apply the highlight wet (and dry) onto your cheek bones and other areas of your face you want to stand out.. no more muddy cheeks.

Obviously I love this, it's actually over taken my love for Mac's Soft & Gentle.. really! You definitely need to grab this from Superdrug.. and if gold is a little too much for you there is also Cindy Lou Manizer which is a much lighter and pink toned highlight.

You have grabbed this yet?

Lideal Eye Pigments*

View more for Lideal Eye Pigment looks and review
View more for Lideal Eye Pigment looks and review

It's been a long time that I've wanted to get my hands on eye pigments, I really want to up my eyeshadow game and these seem to be the secret to it. I envy so many different looks on Instagram and they nearly always have a hint of pigment in there that makes it really stand out. I think it's my rubbish skills and not wanting to waste money that's the reason I've never bought any yet. I did try to get my hands on the Mac pigments set at Christmas but typically it all had sold out once I tried to add them to my basket. I do think gold/bronze pigments are more me than any bright blues or greens, though I'm sure I can merge these in if I get any better.

This beaut pigment is a budget pigment is a Lideal pigment from Born Pretty, and for £1.40 you can't really complain in trying it out. I chose a pigmented gold colour as that's the colour I will probably get the most use out of, plus I love gold and brown smokes. When I've been using this I've been either using it on top of an eyeshadow base for extra glow or spritzing my Mac Fix+ onto my brush and applying it. I really love the effect it gives when using it wet, it really sticks to your eye and the inner corner of your eye.

View more for Lideal Eye Pigment looks and review

As much as I love eyeshadow, I never really get the opportunity to try out the looks I like or they're just not practical.. like if I rocked up to work with a full smokey eye. I'm sure people in meetings would think I had lost it. Subtle eye make up is the only go work wise. But I did enjoy creating this look, I used the pigment to brighten the glow in the centre and inner corner of my eyes. I really love how easy this is to change an eye look completely.

Obviously there will be fall out with a loose eyeshadow, but tapping the brush on the back of your hand or back into the pot will stop the fall out being all over your face (and looking like a disco ball).

What is your favourite pigment? I'm desperate for Mac Watermelon!

My Favourite Palettes

Palette Mixture, ABH, Too Faced, Makeup Revolution, Nars
Palette Mixture, ABH, Too Faced, Makeup Revolution, Nars

I love a good palette, even more so if it is a special edition (like Nars), or a good budget one like Makeup Revolution. It's not very often I do manage to grab one, or get around to it but face palettes are my favourite. I have heaps of eyeshadow palettes so I always find a face/blush palette that all more exciting. I really just like any excuse to buy makeup really.

Makeup Revolution Ultra Blush Palette
Well the first selling point is.. this is SIX POUND. Bargain. This is actually some of my most pigmented highlighters I own and theres a different colour for each make up look you're going for and the pinks come in handy for a subtle blush. They are super shiny though so a fan brush is your best friend with this.

Nars Virtual Domination Palette
I did review the Nars Virtual Domination Palette a while ago as this is from Christmas '14, so it has seen better days especially the Laguna bronzer. I do try to ration this as I like it so much I don't want it to run out. I don't want to buy them all separately as I like how handy this palette is.
Left to Right - Laguna Bronzer, Miss Liberty Highlight, Deep Throat Blush, Sex Fantasy Blush and Final Cut Blush.

Too Faced Natural Eyes Palette
I also grabbed the Too Faced Natural Eyes Palette back in New York 14' and I still love it now.  I don't know why I haven't purchased any more of their range yet, there is heaaaps I want too. I really love how simple this is, you don't have to hum and har about what colours to use as they're all labelled out. Though I do always gravitate towards gold!

Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit
I got the ABH Contour Kit for Christmas, as you can see from a few posts back. I have drooled over it for months upon months, so it's definitely staying in my favourites for a while. Havana is the probably the only colour I don't get use of in this palette, but the others are perfect. I have cheekbones guys, phew.

What are your favourite palettes?

Gifts With Your Name On From I Just Love It*

I'm a sucker for homeware, I just wish I had a home to put it in really. Instead I'm constantly filling my room up with new bits and bobs, it's an addiction .. haha. I was contacted by the lovely people at I Just Love It to choose something from their amazing stock. It was a hard choice but I was immediately drawn to the LED Wall Light (£24.99), I've seen these crop up everywhere (especially weddings) and I love them. I mean they would make an amazing statement on a mantlepiece. But I don't have one yet so my bedroom will do!

Another thing I couldn't resist is their Peter Rabbit range, I wish I could have it all.. But I chose the lovely personalised cup and saucer (£16.99). There is literally so much homeware you can choose and personalise, they're all so pretty! You can get personalised cake stands and trays which would make amazing gifts (for me at least).

I mean look how cute Peter Rabbit is on the inside of the cup?! AWWW.

They also do pretty personalised Valentines gifts, which I do think would be so sweet if you're looking for a good gift this February. (It's getting cloooose!). Here is two little ideas:

Now they are right up my street! I love little personalised gifts, it means that someone has put that little bit of more effort in. I mean a personalised engagement ring would be more up my street but I'm not seeing that happen any time soon (ha).

Have you ordered anything like this before?
