Aveika Restaurant, Newcastle*

Aveika Japanese restaurant Newcastle

I'm easily led by food, hence the 3 cakes and bacon sandwiches I ate this morning when I was meant to be 'starting my diet'.. that old chestnut. But when I had the opportunity to go try out Aveika I didn't even question it twice! I absolutely love Japanese food, but very few people I know do so I never get to try places out. So me and one of the work girls popped down for some stress relieving cocktails and food for a Thursday night!

The cocktails though... we got these two and I also squeezed in a Japanese Garden cocktail and they were amazing. Plus you have to admit they look pretty too! Godzilla was a lot less scary than it looks, don't let the illuminous green put you off! I was stuck for choice with the cocktails so I let our lovely host pick them all for me! (Phew).

We went for food off the Express Menu, mainly cause I was convinced with Katsu Curry... basic moment. But nothing beats a Katsu Curry ever! The Express Menu is 2 courses for £10 or 3 courses for £15, which is a total bargain! We did also squeeze in a side of Tempura Sweet Potatos, which may have been the simplest but nicest thing ever! We gobbled those down within minutes!

For starters we both got the Prawn Katsu with Plum Sauce, which was luuush. You wouldn't think I only started eating prawns a year ago, I was so so picky! I now get them everywhere, but this was my first prawn katsu and it won't be my last one either.

We did get different mains though, obviously my Katsu Curry made an appearance and my friend got the Beef & Coriander Robata. Which I did try and it was lush! The beef was nice and pink (how it should be) and so soft. How cute was my little pot of curry though, loved being able to choose how much sauce I wanted rather than it swimming it it like some places!

Although I had zilch, zero, nada space for pudding my friend was dying for cheesecake, so you know I couldn't be left out... so some ice cream and sorbet happened. And it was sooo worth feeling slightly round when we left. The raspberry sorbet was the nicest thing ever after carbing up with our starters and mains, could eat it again right now!

I literally couldn't fault this place, I'm going to try and convince all the work girlies to start here next time we're all in town. I need to try more of the cocktails (and maybe their afternoon tea). Plus seeing as it's right on the Quayside it's the best place to start in the Summer!

Have you been to Aveika before? If you go, take me!
