Highlighters ft. a fan brush

There is nothing I don't think finishes off my make up look without a highlight of some sort, so when I find a new release which grabs my attention I can't help to try them. But I always seem to stick with my trusty powder highlighters, I just find them so much easier to work with as I've never got the hang of liquid highlighters.

Above is some of my absolute favourites, though Mac Soft & Gentle is my all time favourite I do switch between all of the above nearly on a daily basis. Soft & Gentle is great when you're going for more of a bronzed look, which the Hourglass can be mixed between bronzed and stand-out depending how much you apply. All the other colours can be used any time, some applied lightly for a more natural look or heavier for a contour/highlight/night look. Perks of the Hourglass palette is that you have a powder, bronzer and highlight all in one.

Crew does look slightly pinker as a swatch than what it looks on your face, but it is really shimmery and looks a lot more subtle when applied lightly. I've recently started applying my highlight witha fan brush, I first noticed one when I was watching one of Shaaanxo's videos about highlighters and I saw she used one. I would usually apply my highlights with my Real Techniques stipling brush but sometimes it applies too much or applies it too blocky. So when Born Pretty sent me their fan brush I was excited to see if I could get the same effect as Shaaanxo does with hers (her make up is always perfect!! I've never came across a fan brush in any Superdrug/Boots store so I've never really had the chance to pick one up before either.

I've had this fan brush for a few weeks now so it has stood my test of time, especially seeing as it has survived two washes without a single bristle fall out. Unlike my Real Techniques stipling brush which I had to glue together! It has lovely soft bristles and spreads the product really well and equally. And for £2.76 can you really complain? I love the light sort of airbrushed effect it gives my highlighter and makes it a lot less of a 'straight line' of highlight too. I would recommend using one when applying highlight, especially if one has a lot of glitter in as it applies it a lot lighter than other brushes. But again it all depends on the look you go for!

  4. What a gorgeous pick of highlighters. I do love a simple, powder highlight too. I love MAC's Soft & Gentle, it's super pretty. I also have a Finnish brand highlighter that I am OBSESSED with, seriously. I'm going to stock pile it so that when I leave Finland, I'll have a back up supply. xxx
