11 things you should know before going to New York

11 things you should know before going to New York

It may have been a few years ago now that I went to New York but I still forever want to go back and do it all again. It really is an amazing city, and was exactly as good as I expected it to be and more. Although, I did walk my feet clean off I wouldn't have had it any other way. I'm not yet to go back, though it is on my list, as there is so many things I didn't do when I was there. There is a lot of things to squeeze into your trip to New York, we only went for 5 days so it isn't all that long really. I did contract some sickness bug on my last day too so that wasn't the easiest to get around a busy city with. With my experience behind me, I know exactly what I would do differently if I was to go again.. and things I would do all over again!

Small gift ideas

Small gift ideas

I always struggle with the smaller gifts, even though most of the time they're my favourite types to receive I find them harder to choose! But sometimes you need that smaller gift/stocking filler just to finish off a gift, so I thought I'd do a post on a mixture of stocking fillers/small gifts. I know it's Christmas soon, so I am a little behind, but these would make lovely gifts all year round. Whether it's for Christmas (can you believe it's two days away?!), birthdays or a treat yo' self moment. I seem to be having treat yo' self moments a lot lately though..!

Ghost Fragrance Christmas Gift Set

Ghost Fragrance Gift Set

I've absolutely loved Ghost fragrances ever since I was a teenager and first got my hands on Ghost The Fragrance. Their perfumes have such an unusual scent to them that makes you absolutely love it, they have an ever so slight musk to them which makes them last so much longer than your usual perfume. When I saw the Ghost Dream gift set I thought it would make the perfect Christmas gift, the Ghost gift sets are so amazing this year I wish I had got one for myself!

Adexe Watches gift of time

Adexe Watches Christmas gifts

I always love watches but I've never been an avid watch wearer, though I'm probably the only person I know who doesn't own one. This is probably why I was so excited to get an Adexe watch! I opted for the MAC Grande Black & Rosegold watch, as I'm in love with anything rose gold! The watch has such a classic look to it, and will also go with anything. It's perfect for my new job and also for any nights out, plus I do always wear black so it is quite fitting for me!

Prestige Flowers Christmas Bouquet

Prestige Flowers Christmas Gift

I don't know about anyone else, but I really struggle to buy gifts for my Grandma and Nana. Well, unless it's a bottle of Coco Chanel every year I don't know what to buy. But my Grandparents are so appreciative of anything that even a pretty bunch of flowers and chocolates can win them over. Prestige Flowers do literally a bunch of everything, there is pretty country flowers to gifts for any occasion like Christmas coming up! I opted for the Winter Warmer bunch which also comes with a box of truffles, yum! There is heaps of beautiful bunches, whether it's Christmas or not. The Happy Christmas bunch being my favourite with the pretty acorns in!

Eyelashes for the party season

Koko lashes from falseeyelashes.co.uk

It's not often that I'll wear eyelashes anymore, fringes and eyelashes can be quite tricky! But I always like to have that bit of extra 'difference' at Christmas that makes your make up stand out more. Eyelashes can really finish off a make up look so I was really looking forward to trying out Koko Lashes. It's the first I've heard of Koko but they looked too perfect not to try. They have such a huge range of lashes, from the bold dark fluffy ones to simple delicate natural look ones. They're a little bit more expensive than the typical Eyelure ones but they're so much nicer.

The best gift for a travel lover - El Camino

El Camino travel charm bracelets

I love quirky Christmas presents, especially when some have a meaning behind them. This is why I love the concept behind El Camino jewellery, especially if you're a budding travel lover like me! It was the first I've came across this brand recently and instantly fell in love with the idea, even my Mam thought it was a sweet idea. I'm a lover of charm bracelets but I find them quite bulky mostly, whereas this one is really comfortable to wear all the time.

Fresher Me Mud Mask

Fresher Me mud mask

I love a good face mask, I've tried absolutely heaps of them and love trying out new ones. I still have my trusty ones that I'll always swear by, but they all seem to do different things so I'm always multi-masking. This one is by Fresher Me, and it's a mud mask. Mud masks are my favourite as they really clear your skin of any impurities and stop me from getting any blemishes. This is the first I'd heard of this brand, although I had seen them on Instagram, so was intrigued to try them out!

Christmas Lust List

Christmas lust list

I have a mixture of Christmas posts to write this year, but this one is probably more aimed at my weirdo taste. There is nothing I love more than things that come out at Christmas time, the best gift sets are always released and the nicest clothes seem to come out. Autumn/Winter fashion is my most favourite anyway so I could literally pick away for months at things I currently love. But if I was going to put a lust list out aimed at me I would definitely want these odd gifts!

The Laundrette - Carbs and Cocktails

Ever since I had heard about The Laundrette opening in Newcastle I had been desperate to try it out, I kept seeing photos of their Manchester branch on Instagram and it looked amazing. When I got the chance to go across I jumped, so me and one of the work girls popped across for some Thursday indulging! With cocktails and carbs being involved me and Danielle didn't even think twice about going!

Breaks in the UK - The Lake District

Breaks in the UK - The Lake District

I love going to the Lake District, I go every year with my family and it's one of my favourite breaks. It's such beautiful place, regardless where you go, and it is so relaxing! We differ each year in where we go and what time of year, but rain or sun I don't think it's ever made me not love it. This year we went in February, although a bit of a sketchy drive down the country roads we hit on to beautiful weather! Other years we have went in April and November, mind November was cold but so pretty!

Tapas Revolution
Tapas Revolution

It's been a while since I've been to a Tapas restaurant, and I've been meaning to try Tapas Revolution for a few months now since it opened in the Greys Quarter. Tapas reminds me of being on holiday, which feels like a life time away now! So it was quite nice to have a relaxing Thursday night with a bottle of wine and yummy Tapas with my cousin, we definitely deserved it after the last few weeks.

I've been sooo excited to write about this, it's got me feeling all Christmassy (and hungry). I love unusual items you can give someone over Christmas, rather than a generic box of chocolates or fancy flowers. Giving someone a gift full of stuff they would love is so cute! There is so many different types of hampers you can get from Prestige Hampers, it's quite hard to choose (I see you gin)!

Natural World Coconut Water Range

Natural World Coconut Water Range

I'm always on a good hunt for a good shampoo and conditioner, even more so at the moment after Iceland gave my hair a beating (see bits about my trip to Iceland here). I had seen a lot about Natural World recently on Twitter and really wanted to try it out, especially as coconut oil seems to be all the range at the moment. This shampoo and condition comes in a huge ass 1,000 ml bottle, I feel like I'll be using this forever and a day. Which is probably quite a change up for my usual 2 bottles of conditioner to my 1 bottle of shampoo!

Sticking at fitness with Protein World

Protein World Slender Blend range

I've tried all sorts of proteins when I decided to attempt a health kick about 2 years ago, I've also switched how I do things around quite a lot. In the process I have tried some pretty rank proteins and pre-workouts along the way! One I have been wanting to try for ages is Protein World, my friend swore by their Vanilla Slender Blend for ages! I've been trying to force myself to finish my gross protein I have currently before I was going to try another brand, but luckily Protein World came along and I'm so glad I've eventually tried them out, and converted me!

Things to do in Reykjavik

So I've just came back from 4 days in Reykjavik, 4 days may not seem all that long but you can fit a lot into 4 days! May be a tiring holiday but it is worth while. I've just came back from a short stay in Reykjavik and I loved it, although it was freezing cold compared to Turkey a week ago! There was things we missed out in our trip which I wish we had been able to squeeze in but we weren't there enough days to do everything! (next time)!

Why I meet up with friends abroad rather than the UK

Meeting friends abroad

I don't know about any one else, but living in Newcastle means I always seem to have to spend a fortune if I want to travel anywhere else in the county. Whether it's a weekend in Manchester or London, train tickets seem to require me to sell my kidneys. (I mean, £200 odd for a train ticket to London)?! So I thought I would say why I meet up with friends abroad rather than staying in the UK. When I first read an article about this I thought it was unbelievable, until I priced it and realised it saved a bomb and now we always do it!

Palmers skincare

Palmers facial cleanser and oil

I remember once I was scared of face oils cause my skin is so oily anyway, I thought using oily products would cause havoc. After trying them I realised how wrong I was, and since then I've been on the look out for a good one to keep in my skincare routine. I can't really use scented things so it has to be a light formula to stop my skin from breaking out, this is why these come in. I've always swore by Palmers Cocoa Butter for body moisturising, but I didn't now they had face skin care too!

I've tried quite a few bits of the Skinn ranges over time, and I don't think there has been one I didn't like so far. They're not the most accessible brand on the market, although you can buy a lot through click & collect on Ideal World which is handy! This time round I've been trying a few bits from their Summer release, which included a new favourite mascara!

Urban Decay Heat Palette

Urban Decay Heat Palette
I've wanted this palette since it was released, anything orange toned is straight up my street when it comes to eye make up. I was majorly jealous when I kept seeing this pop up on peoples Instagram and Twitters cause I wanted it so bad, but just couldn't afford it right now! But my amazing friends The Dena Edit and Emmy Writes About treat me to it by surprise! I don't think I've ever been so grateful and surprised by a gift before, they are literally the most thoughtful and sweetest pair!

I've been trying out the Evoluderm range for quite a while now, I like to get the feel of skincare products cause my skin can be so temperamental. I can sometimes use a product for months and then all of a sudden it triggers my eczema out of nowhere. Though, I must admit French skincare is always the best for my skin, especially face wise!

There is a few choices which you can go for; Breakfast, Lunch, High Tea, BBQ, Dinner and the Cocktails one I attended. They're all at fixed times throughout the day, but I loved the idea of seeing the city lit up at night so this was more up my street!

I haven't tried any other skin care other than my trusty Skin Chemists and Garnier Micellar water for absolutely donkeys now, so I always feel strange delving out into a new brand. I've tried Elizabeth Grant before, and I currently still use her eye cream that I love but I haven't tried any more of her skin care range. The Hydra Cell range is a day to night skin care set which has hyaluronic acid in, this helps plump, moisturise and firm your skin.

RCMA Setting Powder

RCMA Setting Powder

I literally couldn't cope without a setting powder, my make up would probably slide off by lunch time even with a setting spray. Setting powders really do work wonders with your make up, I use one literally every day. I previously used Vichy, which I loved but it isn't the cheapest or biggest you can get for the price. This was actually recommended to me by Anoushka, and I'm so glad I grabbed it.

I'm a procrastination expert

I don't know about you, but I can literally get distracted by a spec of dust so I don't have to do what I'm meant to be. At work I can do everything I need to, but once I'm home and I need to do something such as uni work or even blog I procrastinate like mad. I'm not even doing anything worthwhile when I actually should be, I'm literally continuously scrolling through the same feed on Instagram to pass the time. When in reality I could be doing all the outstanding stuff on my blog or doing stuff with the family or dogs. I'm not even Netflix binging, there is about 10 series I want to watch but I've been 'busy'...!

Why I found making blog friends so important

Why I found making blog friends so important

Why I found making blog friends so important

I started off blogging with lil old me writing about rubbish and possibly posting the worst photos known to mankind, I remember everyone having their little blog cliques and I didn't really know anyone. It did take me a long while to form friendships, I'm not the most upfront person so I struggle to start a conversation with someone I don't know. But here I am around 3 years later, and I've made some amazing friends. Some I've never met but wish I could and a few I have met and wish I'd known longer!

Elizabeth Grant Mask Set

Elizabeth Grant Mask Set

I'm always on the search for good face masks, I've tried so many now and I've never found a replacement for my trusty GlamGlow. I do love a good pretty face mask set though so as soon as I saw the Elizabeth Grant mask set I had to try it! It reminds me of my GlamGlow set I had back when I wasn't some form of skint traveller, it has a mixture of masks to mix between depending on your concerns. My skin goes through phases of having blemishes, dry patches, being oily and just needing some general tlc so one mask never quite does it all!

My experience at Northumbria University - The Clearing Process

My experience at Northumbria University - The Clearing Process

University always scared me, I remember being in sixth form at school and they were adamant everyone should go. I was clueless to what I even wanted to do never mind being forced into university, so I went to college instead. After doing college for one year I realised I didn't want to do art at university like I initially thought, but if I had listened to my school I would've spent an absolute fortune going and doing something for the sake of it. Instead I did an apprenticeship for 2 years in a job I'd never thought about, which then led me to apply for a degree at 21 knowing what I wanted to do for a career rather than what class I enjoyed at school. I feel so much better for waiting to find something I loved before going to university, and now I'm going into a job that I wouldn't have even knew I existed.

Travel: Booking a cheap weekend in Majorca

Booking a cheap weekend in Majorca

Instead of wasting my money on nothing like I usually do, I've decided I would rather spend my pay going and travelling places I haven't been. So far this year I've been to Amsterdam, Turkey and Majorca, and I've still got another Turkey trip and Iceland to go. None of my trips this year have blown a budget and I've kept them all quite sensible so I can go on a few rather than one big blow out one. As I love meeting my blog girls Ashton and Kirsty, we decided to book a nice long weekend in Majorca. I haven't been to Majorca since I was 17 and went to Magaluf, so I was intrigued to go back and see what it was like!

Things to do in Amsterdam

Things to do in Amsterdam

As you probably saw from my 800 Instagram photos, I love Amsterdam! I did have every intention to go back this year but I think I've ran out of time for the rest of the year and probably holiday money. Someone come with me next year pls. So after I've waffled about Amsterdam for months, I thought I would do a little round up post of the things you can do when you visit. We didn't get the chance to do everything, but I'm happy to visit more often and tick a little one off each time!

I've been to Amsterdam in both Winter and Summer, and although I'm a total Autumn lover I much prefer Amsterdam in the Summer time. It's warm, but not crazily warm, and nice and sunny to look around all the beautiful places in the City.

John Frieda Volume Essentials

John Frieda Luxurious Volume Range

If you want to keep your hair in good condition, a good shampoo and condition duo is always the best place to start. I can always feel a difference in my hair if I use a supermarket brand on my hair compared to named brands like John Frieda. It's like when you go to the hairdressers and you hair feels like silk then you wash it with some Herbal Essences and it feels rubbish again, so a good shampoo and conditioner makes a heap of difference.

Joan Collins Timeless Collection Crystal Compact

I've never owned a compact before, not even a Charlotte Tilbury one, how very non-blogger of me! I love how pretty they are, though I know they just hide in your bag, but can you imagine pulling this out your handbag? Better than me pulling out my 6 year old Mac pressed powder that I've hoarded. Probably about time I recycled that and replaced it with this. Plus it comes with the prettiest lipstick I think I've ever owned! I mean, how can this not be pretty if it's plated in gold?! And red lipsticks win every time anyway.

Tangle Angel

Tangle Angel Brush Review

If you read here a little often, you'll have heard me waffle on about tangle brushes before (Tangle Teezer), but I'm always wanting to try new versions. This time it's the every so pretty Tangle Angel. Every time I go to my hairdressers she has a new gadget I want to add to my collection, though I'm yet to see her grab out a brush that looks quite like this! I mean how pretty is it? And it's pink so what more do I want? I've had my hands on this a few months now and it's made my hair feel so much softer. I think normal brushes create so many split ends, and I'm so stingey at getting my hair cut so this has helped loads!

I love buying new perfumes, I think I actually have about 13 at the moment.. maybe I should probably stop. Every fragrance I have is pretty different, and what scent I wear depends on where I'm going or what I fancy. Sometimes it's sweet and floral, other times it's deep and musk, sometimes it's high end and sometimes it's a celebrity one. I do love a musky fragrance (Giorgio Armani Si is amazing), so this new one from Change by Lisa Riley is right up my street!

I always find that no matter what blackhead treatment you use they never seem to do it properly. And I'm definitely not one to try those blackhead masks as I don't want to ruin my skin in the process. So scrolling through Facebook like the morning paper when I saw an article by Metro on 'Skin Gritting'. I was intrigued, especially that for once I actually owned the products mentioned. Skin Chemists Advanced Snail Duo Moisturiser*

Skin Chemists Snail Duo Moisturiser review

So it's now getting towards that nice sunny weather.. well on most days anyway. This is calling for some lighter moisturisers under my thicker foundations (double wear I see you) for the warmer weather. Having thick bases under a high coverage foundation always sends my skin crazy in the heat, or I look like a witch who's melting. Not a good look really.. So a light moisturiser really helps to keep my skin hydrated but not cakey.
