Hempz Skincare Range

Hempz Skincare Range Pomegranate Wash

I've wrote about Hempz before and I'm still in love with their range ever since, for someone who has such sensitive skin it's rare I ever get to use nice smelling products. So this is why I love the Hempz range so much, it's nice to be able to use a scented body lotion and shower gel, I love being able to smell it all day long! The last item I tried was the Bath / Body Oil, which smelt absolutely amazing!

Visiting the Blue Lagoon, Iceland

Visiting the Blue Lagoon was one of the many things I loved in Iceland, though there was so much about it I loved! We spent the best part of our day here when we visited Iceland last year and I loved it, although I know it's not everyones cup of tea we couldn't have faulted it.

Working on my confidence

Hunkemoller playsuit and iKrush sandals

Working on me is probably one of the harder things to do, though when it comes to me helping one of my friends I'll throw all my energy into helping them. But the question is, why can't I do the same when it comes to my own well being?

Booking Bali on a budget

Booking Bali on a budget

When I always contemplated Bali I always thought of it being way out of my price range, when you see travel agents post about it on Facebook (maybe I follow too many) it always seems to be about c. £1,500. To me that's a big holiday I would need probably a special reason to go on, but your holiday doesn't have to be expensive. It can be within your budget in many ways, whether it's saying in Hostels or splashing out on a private villa somewhere it can be done. I mean wouldn't we all want to stay in top of the range accommodation all the time, but that just isn't realistic for some. As this was my first time in Asia, I was so surprised at how inexpensive places and things were there. So hopefully these tips will help you make your decisions! p.s. if you go back, will you take me?

Wax Lyrical x Yvonne Ellen + giveaway

Wax Lyrical x Yvonne Ellen

It's not secret that I am obsessed with candles and such, I probably have around 8 in my room alone never mind the rest of the house. I don't know about you, but I love coming into a room that has a nice smelling candle burning. With having two doggos it always stresses me out thinking my house my smell of dogs, so there is a candle and air freshener in pretty much every room. Overload maybe? Naaah, whats that?

Old English Company

Old English Company

I really love the look of light and bright rooms, and white prints, fake flowers etc are right up my street. But unfortunately I still live at home, and there is pretty much only a few things I can get away with replacing that my Mam actually thinks is acceptable. Whereas if I had my own way she would come home one day to newly wallpapered walls, shabby chic furniture and prints and pretty ornaments everywhere, but she would kill me. So for now I just make the most of making my room all pretty!

Happiness Boutique

Happiness Boutique

I've been after some statement earrings for ages now, but apparently every local store that stocks them near me everyone breaks. I'd been after tassel earrings for months, trying to find an intact pair in store appeared to be a complete nightmare! When I discovered Happiness Boutique I was pretty stuck for choice, they literally have heaps of statement jewellery. I mean they're not the £2 ones you grab in Primark, but these are such good quality they're worth purchasing.

Cologne Carnival - Fastelovend

Cologne Carnival

Little did we know that when we booked our trip to Cologne there was a huge week long carnival on. This was even after googling, instagraming and even pinning on Pinterest to arrange our few days there. This showed up no where!!! So it was a little surprise in our taxi from the Airport when the guy asked us whether we were here for the carnival and we were clueless to what he meant. When we arrived into the city, they were beginning to put all the stages, seats and decorations up ready for the parades.. how did we not know about this?! Our taxi driver also told us on Thursday (Fat Thursday - Weiberfastnacht) when we flew home, that all the shops close and it's pretty hard to get taxis to the airport (nightmare), as it's like a bank holiday!

Cologne Carnival takes place each year, in our case the week commencing the 5th March, which begins the days before Lent. On the Thursday (Fat Thursday), everyone gets dressed up and I mean everyone. Never in my life have I felt so out of place being not in fancy dress, everyone really goes all out. If it hadn't been the day we were flying home, we definitely would have grabbed some fancy dress from one of the hundreds of fancy dress stores. The first Thursday celebrates women, and a lot of women meet in the square (Alter Markt) at 11:11 to begin, then all the parades begin for the day.

Cologne Carnival

The Carnival runs for 5 days from the Thursday, there is different events on around the whole city. Some street parades, live music and plays and basically lots of drinking. Don't be surprised to see a lot of alcohol, people generally start drinking in the morning and continue into the next morning. Although the Friday day time is another working day. The bars come out into the streets, everyone has bottles of schnapps and there is places to buy beer from everywhere.

After you spend most of the day time recovering, Friday afternoon is where it starts again. At 6pm the Alter Markt becomes a show of the best costumes, even the bad costumes were good so I do wish I'd seen how good these costumes would have been. Then again, you drink beer into the night!

Saturday is the Ghost Parade, where people will dress as witches and vampires for a parade from Maternusstraße and Alteburger Straße at 6pm. This is one thing I'm gutted I missed, I love a good spooky carnival and I would have loved to have seen the outfits. (And again you drink into the night).

Sunday begins at 11:11, so you either get some extra sleep to recover, or you carry on. The schools all get dressed up and parade through town in their costumes (and they throw sweets and flowers, perks). Sunday is a quieter day, so you can use the day to recover and get ready for mad Monday.

Cologne Carnival

Monday is the main event, and the one most tourists will travel for (unless you were like us and were clueless). There is a huge parade through the city with floats (usually featuring Trump jokes), the tradition is to depicted political satire. I mean who wouldn't want to see a giant float of Trump in a dress?! I'm so sad I missed it! Again, this day is filled with alcohol!

Violet Tuesday is the last day and usually a bit quieter as people will have work the next day. There is parades through the town still, and as this is the last day before Lent - time to eat or drink as much as you can before you give something up! At midnight on Violet Tuesday local bars will have a Nubbel outside, which is basically a human size dummy. The dummy is burnt to symbolise all the transgressions committed. The largest ceremony takes place in Cologne's Kwartier Latäng student district, then you can continue drinking (again).

Although the Carnival is quite alcohol fuelled, if that's not your vibe there is still loads to see and do. We quite enjoyed just people watching everyone in the costumes enjoy themselves while grabbing a burger. Everyone is ridiculously friendly, we stopped and talked to a lot of people while just watching the parades (and drinking beer).

Cologne Carnival

I was so so gutted to leave the carnival as it was just starting out, I mean who doesn't want to go on a trip where you wear a belt made of schnapps?! Definitely want to go back next year! Cologne Carnival is on 28 February to the 3rd of March in 2019!

Have you ever been to a festival abroad?

Tarte Shape Tape Collection

Tarte Shape Tape Collection

It's been a whole year since I bought my first Tarte Maneater collection from QVC, I still love it to this day and was so impressed by it. So when I saw this pop up all over I knew I needed to grab it! QVC do easy pay instalments too which make it so much easier to treat yourself! I barely ever buy myself nice expensive make up anymore, 1. I don't actually know where my money goes and 2. I'd rather spend it exploring somewhere! But a treat every now and then is always good, and still probably the way to my heart even though I don't blog about beauty all that much anymore (I still love it though).

Exotic food destinations I need to try!

Exotic food destinations I need to try!
(Post features affiliate links)

It's no secret that I'm a foodie, as soon as I know I'm off somewhere I look at what food I can try there. So planning my next trips probably wouldn't surprise you that I want to go there solely for food (yes, Pizza & Rome sound perfect). I really enjoyed trying out the food in Germany, especially the German burgers. It's not often I get to write about food on my blog, which is a shame as I probably arrange my day around eating or what I'm going to eat next, and really enjoy eating out. There was one time that I was the pickiest eater in history, and now I like nothing more than ordering an array of food to try out in different countries.

So it’s spring, well it’s meant to be anyway I’m sure. But it’s nearly garden party weather, which means it’s getting near my birthday (yaaaay). I love when it actually gets to sunny weather as making at home afternoon teas and teapot cocktails for the garden is my favourite thing!

The Body Shop Shade Adjusting Darkening Drops

The Body Shop Shade Adjusting Darkening Drops

I know I'm behind on the bandwagon for the Darkening Shade Adjusting Drops, probably by about 2 years but I've never actually been tanned enough to ever need them until the passed year or so. But as I actually leave the country now I actually have a bit of a tan so some of my good old trusty foundations aren't dark enough anymore, and that it's just generally hard to find a colour match. There is heaps of foundation shades out there, but typically the range I always seem to try is always limited in shades (useless). So after I got back from Turkey last year, I decided it was about time I grabbed these as nothing matched my skin. White face and tanned body just isn't really a good look, I looked like a mime!

My favourite long lasting bases

4 favourite foundations

I love a good foundation, but there is a few which I will grab week in week out and repurchase each time. I'm still yet to find my be all end all foundation but there is something I love about each of these which makes me keep buying them, though they each do something quite different... hence why I can't just choose one! A few of these are quite the 'cult' products that everyone loves, which I'm quite surprised about as it's not often I fall in love with the most hyped products.. like The Ordinary!

Skincare Tips: Why is Black Sugar Good for Your Skin?

Skincare: Why is Black Sugar Good for Your Skin?
*This post contains affiliate links

Not many people will have heard of black sugar, me I’d only heard of white and brown sugar before now. Black sugar is not quite as popular, so probably why you haven’t heard of it, and most will probably think it’s just a dark brown anyhow. But black sugar, which is used to cook with quite often in Asia, is supposed to be one of the healthier, tastier options to use (maybe I should use it more cause I love asian food). We probably don’t cook with it as much, or actually appreciate how good it is for you. But there is actually a better reason for it, skin care! (Let’s pretend skin care is better than cake for now). Many Asian cosmetics brands like Skinfood use black sugar in their products, especially in skin and face care products. Here’s why…

Why I swear by beautyblenders

Why I swear by beautyblenders

I've swore by beautyblenders for as long as I can remember now, I can't use anything else anymore. I always try out the newest fad, like the flat brushes, but they never live up to my holy grail. Beautyblenders always evenly apply all of my foundations, and I don't think I've tried anything that hasn't worked with mine. Although, nothing does beat a brand new beautyblender (but don't use one if you have light coloured nails!).

30 things to do before I’m 30

30 things to do before I’m 30

Theres so much I want to do before I turn 30, I have just over 5 years so I feel like they can be doable. I've ticked off a few already, which I'll quite probably remember forever, but there is so much to see and do in the world! After discovering my little wanderlust last year I really want to keep that up, especially discovering Europe as it's literally on our doorstep. I can get a ferry to heaps of destinations from just down the road, DFDS literally sail to the likes of Holland and over to Poland (which I'm desperate to go to), for quite cheap too!

I've wanted to try thm for ages but it's not as easy to come by in the UK, but their products always have the best scent combos. Finding a good burger in Cologne, Germany

Finding a good burger in Cologne, Germany

If you know me you will know I love food, I struggle so much to eat healthily as I love trying new places to eat. So I took full opportunity when in Germany, nothing counts on holiday so technically didn't break my healthy eating.. sort of. I know German food isn't technically burgers and I should probably tried Schweinshaxe or Schnitzel but they don't quite float my boat as much. Well that, and meat on the bone freaks me out.

Urban Decay All Nighter Foundation

I've been dying to try the Urban Decay All Nighter foundation for ages but just never had the funds to grab it until Christmas time. I was so excited for it to arrive as I'd heard nothing but good things about it and I was yet to try anything other than an Urban Decay eyeshadow palette! I bought this foundation online as it's always the easiest way for me to grab beauty products, but choosing a foundation online is so so hard. I decided to grab the shade 1.0, it's a light vanilla shade with a yellow undertone.

Fitness: How I Meal Prep

Fitness: How I Meal Prep

So seeing as I'm off on holiday soon I thought I would actually put the effort into the gym that I've always wanted to. Crossfit is tough, tougher than I've been used to when it comes to the gym so I really want to get good results out of it. I've been actually enjoying exercise for the past few years but I've never really done the diet side of things. I enjoy a good pizza far too much. After throwing a lot of weight training in I am feeling a lot happier in my shape, but it still needs that tiny bit of tlc which makes or breaks your gym progress ... diet.

Pink Parcel Subscription Box

Pink Parcel Subscription Box

It's been a while since I last had a Pink Parcel, I'm not sure why cause I loved my last one! Just in case you don't know, Pink Parcel is a monthly subscription box for your period. I don't know about you, but I'm even grumpier those days than I am the rest, and that says a lot. So I always loved the idea of getting one of these monthly to cheer you up. I don't 'need' one monthly, so possibly why I've never had the opportunity to subscribe to these, but I don't think I've had a bad one yet!

Juvederm Lip Fillers Experience with Flawless Cosmetic

Juvederm Lip Fillers Experience

There one thing I’ve always been self conscious about is my top lip, or lack of lip, that resembles a strawberry lace. It's something that has always bothered me, maybe Instagram is to blame with everyone being all toned with plump lips. But anyway, I decided it was about time I did something about it in hope it would make me feel that little bit better about myself. So last Saturday I booked myself in with Flawless Cosmetic in Gateshead to get fillers, there was so many places to choose from but my friend had got hers done here and I loved them!

Why being single has helped me

Why being single has helped me

This is slightly fitting for Valentines, but it's a positive one, not an I cry over Galentines post!

As I never thought I'd see the day I was single in my mid-ish twenties, I was in a relationship for donkeys from being 17 and didn't expect to end up being single at 24. But although the grass isn't greener as some people might think, I've learnt more about myself being single in my mid twenties than I ever thought I would. There was a time I was so reserved that I would just stay in the house and didn't speak to any of my friends, and that was all my own doing. Though I probably still do that quite a lot to avoid socialisation, I was far too comfortable in what I had but also made myself miserable! It took a lot of learning to enjoy my own company, which I probably should have worked on anyway.

The Ordinary Serum Foundation

The Ordinary Serum Foundation

I had been dying to try this foundation for months, since probably before Christmas, as everyone was on the hype about it! I didn't budge until after Christmas when I grabbed my Morphe 3502 palette from BeautyBay and it was actually in stock for once! The Coverage foundation was sold out so I opted for the Serum foundation, they're quite similar in price but one is full coverage and one is 'natural' coverage.

Fitness goals with the Some Body range!

Superdrug Some Body range

So even though I do go to the gym a few times a week, I wouldn't say my fitness is all that good. I still hyperventilate when I reach the 5th floor at uni and I still couldn't run to the fridge. So I've vowed to myself that I will learn how to run this year and try and get Crossfit to make a difference, instead of eating every burger in human sight. I've started so far my meal prepping 2+ weeks of lunches for work, which I'll write about soon, and trying to get to the gym 5 days a week. As were off to Bali in a few month I really want to feel good about myself too, so hopefully this will help!

Bali Inspiration Wishlist with Zaful

Bali Inspo

I don't think I've ever been so excited for a holiday before until me Ashton and Kirsty booked for Bali in April/May. It's somewhere which has always been on my bucket list as it just looks so beautiful! This will be my very first 'travelling' type of holiday, most of my holidays have been either a package or just one hotel for my entire stay. But as we want to experience as much of Bali as possible we're trying to go to at least 3 different hotels in Bali, and maybe the Gili Islands if we can find a nice hotel on Booking.com!

Salon Science Haircare

Salon Science Haircare

I'm forever trying out new haircare brands, I really don't like the supermarket brands as they tend to be heavy on your hair, so I love trying new ones I haven't heard of! Salon Science is a new brand to me, which is sold in Boots. They do a few different ranges depending on what your issue is, I tried the Celluluxe range for restoring volume and anti-ageing. Although I don't really need the anti-ageing side just yet, my hair has been lacking volume since Iceland - I think the salt has killed in. So these have definitely came in handy since being back.

Travel: Budgeting in Iceland

Budgeting in Iceland

I loved everything about Iceland, it really was one of my favourite trips of 2017 (which is a hard choice really). But as everyone knows Iceland is renowned for being expensive, so it’s not somewhere like Krakow you can go for a cheap few days away. I went for 5 days and knew I wanted to save enough money so I could enjoy myself without worrying. Even by doing that I still had to be careful with money.

For 5 days I took just over £800 in Icelandic Krona, which totals to 114,000 ISK. Which seems crazy, in my mind I literally felt like I was handing over £2,000 for a glass of wine when in reality it is about £12 (which is still a lot)! A lot of my money I got exchanged was in 10,000 and 5,000 ISK notes. People did look at me funny when I handed over my 10,000 note for a glass of wine! Note to self: don’t use all your smaller notes for your evening meals.

So at Christmas I decided to treat myself to the beaut Morphe palette and a new ABH Dipbrow (which was well overdue)! I was so excited for this to come, I've loved a good orange-red toned palette ever since Emmywritesabout and Thedenaedit grabbed me the Urban Decay Heat Palette! A girl can really not have too many warm eyeshadow palettes and they're so so easy to work with compared to the darker smokey palettes!

2017 in reflection

When I first went into the New Year I wasn't quite sure how the year had went, I felt a little bit lacklustre having feeling like I went into 2018 with nothing. That's until I decided to look back at my year and look back at what I'd done and from there I realised how much I'd actually done. I'm quite a negative person, which I'm working on, so I always find it easier to look at the negative things rather than the positives. Posts like these really help remind myself and boost myself for 2018, I really hope it's as good as a year as the last.
