Home decor on a budget

Home decor on a budget

I could quite happily redecorate my house tomorrow, but I live at home and my mother would kill me. But I'm always the one bringing home random items to stick in the living room to spruce things up. I’m always changing things around in my room too, there’s so much inspiration on instagram I could change it every day. However I’m still living on my budget with my new job, so everything I do has to be within that budget. So that might mean I only buy one thing towards my decor a month or I find some good deals somewhere.

Now I am a sucker for TK Maxx, it’s so affordable but also has the most random and quirky items to choose from. I can’t walk into this store without buying something, sometimes it is a funky plant pot and other times it’s something completely random. However as everything is so cheap and original, it’s a great place if you’re on s budget. I actually got all my bedroom furniture from there (minus my Hollywood mirror). I love quirky items, especially old retro things. We have loads of old games in the house for family nights, nothing beats having the family over for food and nintendo games. I always think no matter how pretty your house is, you still need home comforts. Whether it's games, record players etc. Minimalism is nice and all, but I couldn't have a complete empty space as it's still your home.

Another place for homewear items which is my close second favourite is good old eBay. You can get some items for £1, when they’re about £25 in a ‘shabby chic’ store. My latest favourite is hanging plant holders, I now have two and counting. They really give a room a different vibe, and I’m currently all for trying to decorate with things that make you happier lately. Which as callmeamy says is, plants! So I have 3 squished into my room which I’m trying not to kill.

Going to a garden centre will also mean you’re paying about £10+ more for a simple plant and pot. Whereas if you go to a local florist etc. you can get them for a lot cheaper. I’ve actually been buying mine at Fenwicks flower store for a while and they’re so cheap. There is also a little flower stall on or high street which sell lovely ones too for £3.99, so always good to shop around!

My all time favourite homewear shop is Oliver Bonas, is it possibly to want absolutely everything from there? Only downside is that not everything from there is not always as affordable, which is why the like of TK Maxx and eBay always win me over. But when the day comes that I get my own house, it may be full of things from Oliver Bonas and I am not sorry.

But until then, I will continue my hanging plant obsession and live in a bedroom/greenhouse.

What is your favourite thing to have at home? Do you love family activities or fall more under the minimalism category?
