Updating your wardrobe for Autumn

Updating your wardrobe for the Autumn weather
*This is a collaborative post

So sadly, Summer is over and I'm back to sporting coats. So it's now time to overhaul my wardrobe to bring in some AW clothing into the mix. It's not quite hat and glove weather, although I did debate it this morning, but it's definitely time for tights most days now. I feel like I got so used to being able to have bare legs and not have to wear coats for so long now, this all feels foreign and I'm sad about it! This is always a good excuse to get out that dress you loved last winter, grab some new bits too! But don’t feel like you need to settle for the same old!

A statement coat

Go bold with the layers this Autumn. A statement coat is nothing less than a necessity in your winter wardrobe this year. It doesn’t particularly matter which style, which colour or which cut. For me I love a good fur coat, so it's only obvious I will be buying another this year, and maybe even a bold print one! Leopard print I'm coming for you!

There is so many amazing prints out in stores at the moment – so expect to see animal prints, plaid and neutral patterns on coats. I literally lived in my long check coat last year, so I'm glad it fits in the clueless vibes this year! As it's not so cold at the moment, I'm loving the Mac craze again.

Over-the-knee boots

Not only do over-the-knee boots go well with a long coat, but they’re easily paired with many outfits no matter what the season is. A jumper dress (warmth yas), denim/leather skirts, or even just simply some skinny jeans - it's the best way to keep toasty. Plus it means you can keep your legs warm on a night out in a skirt!

Boots also give you more opportunities to play with splashes of colour or prints, matching them to your outfit in order to create a bold, striking look that stand outs in the dull dreariness of winter. However, you can’t go wrong with a staple pair of black over-the-knees – they’ll go with almost anything. I have black suede over the knee boots that I swear by. But I'm also loving the bright ankle boot craze all over again.

Bold colours

As mentioned, it’s time to swap out the neutral greys and blacks this winter in favour of something a bit more bold, I didn't actually know clothes that weren't black existed haha.... I do try. Colours are in this season, with reds, yellows and blues, there is so many nice red leopard print around at the moment too. Whether it’s a coat, a jumper or even accessories, be sure to embrace colours – even if it does mean stepping out of your comfort zone. I loved wearing my blue fur coat last year, I feel like it's so unusual and felt so nice wearing it!

Experiment and mix some colours until you find a combination you’re comfortable with, even if it's just a lil splash of colours!

Hats

I never wear hats, but they really came in fashion last year and I loved them. So much that I even left the house in a beret! Albeit I had no idea how to put it on, but it was so so cute. There’s always a style that’ll suit you when it comes to hats, though it doesn't feel that way 6 hats deep in Primark. And not only does a hat keep your head warm, but it can prove to be the accessory that makes an outfit, like the biker hats last season. They were so unusual but made outfits 10x better.

Whether it’s a woolly number, a fedora or any other style that takes your fancy, pair it with the right outfit and you’ll be able to find the right balance of warmth and not looking like a gnome.

Subtle prints

Plaid, pinstripe and dotted prints are everywhere again ready for AW ranges! So this goes from the likes of jumpers to trousers, coats to long skirts. I'm loving the long skirts that are everywhere again, I have a lush navy pleat one for work which I am looooving at the moment (cos it's toasty too).

I'm all for the tartan look this AW, the clueless vibes are everywhere and I am looooving it. I just need to find a skirt I can get my ass into sometime soon. But until then, we need to live out this in between weather before I can break out the fur coat!

What is your favourite style that is out at the moment?
