Veganuary | Ask Italian, Intu Metrocentre AD

I've really enjoyed Veganuary, I actually wish I had been able to try more. Unfortunately I feel like it's been 84 years since payday so my meals have mostly consisted of whatever remains in the freezer. So for the remainder of the year, I'm going to try and eat meatless/vegan meals as much as I can. Also allow myself to branch out and try more things I haven't had before. I don't know about you but I tend to order pretty similar things each time I go out for food so I don't try many things.

This is what I probably enjoyed about being able to try all the vegan food as of late, they've all been things I wouldn't have usually tried. When visiting Ask Italian I was persuaded by the guy serving us to try to butternut squash pizza on the vegan menu, as I've never actually tried butternut squash before I wasn't too sure whether I would like it. (I'm so glad I listened).

It's the first time I've been to Ask Italian before and I really enjoyed it, not only were the staff so lovely and accommodating, the food was amazing. I always find the Metrocentre so easy to go to for shopping and food, free and lots of parking makes it so much easier than driving in the city centre. We popped here after work to grab some food and catch up, it was nice and relaxing!

For starters we got the Rosemary & Sea Salt Bread and the Baked Dough Balls to share. We definitely went carb overload but there is nothing I love more than heaps of dough and balsamic dips. The bread was so fresh and tasty, we didn't leave a single piece!

For the main I got the Prima Zucca Zucca Pizza that I mentioned earlier, which had butternut squash, balsamic onions, roquito peppers, spinach and vegan mozzarella. So not only is it an amazing pizza, it has lots of good veg on top of it too, so it didn't feel hugely heavy. The combination of vegan mozzarella and butternut squash base was amazing, it reminded me of the pumpkin pizza I had in Benidorm, so I was immediately sold. (Everyone get this).

I got half of my pizza boxed up so I could fit this in, I knew I needed to get this before I even went. Does anyone else choose their pudding first? The Blood Orange & Chocolate Tarte was the best vegan dessert I've had so far, I need a whole one of these for my birthday! It was so tasty and not sickly or too rich, and the raspberry sorbet was the best accompaniment. P.s. the best thing about taking half your pizza home means you can have it for tea the next day.

I'd definitely recommend Ask's Vegan menu, it was one of my favourite meals out I've had in a long while. After trying the Wagamama vegan menu last week and Ask this week, I'm definitely going to have to try out more vegan options in Newcastle!

Is there anywhere you recommend to try next?
